Spring SeasonSpring Season
The mountain season shift
Curious to behold, both swift and slow
Receding snow, succumbing to a warm fate
The valley creek building to a kayaker's dream
Fairways greening, greens receiving tending
And old men dressed as pimps, tearing it up in their carts
Dirt trails cleared for their two wheeled friends
Soon at speeds that will shame the electric buggies
Gradual covered about a lunar cycle
Faster now closer to Terra's single rotation
The scattered deciduous amidst the forever leaves
Buds sprout overnight, greening before your eyes
The weather warms, reaching the usual highs
The occasional rain giving back life to the ski runs' base
The long sleep ends, the wildlife returns
Bears berrying in ditches
Young fox cubs shifting the pimps' balls
Golf rather than intimate, you understand
The frolicking, yet nervous chipmunks and squirrels
And those blue jays adding vibrant colour everywhere
Oh what the crap!
What's this blizzard doing here?
That CountryThat Country
Overwhelming size, yet underwhelming population
Though the latter refers not to character, but quantity.
A rich history with multiple starting points,
Thousands or hundreds of cycles, depending on origin.
A land of extremes, surprising to some
The well known mountains and untainted snow
The iconic Inukshuk, pointing the way
Past dying glaciers, shrinking, receding.
Scrubland deserts, burning the sky
And emerald forests, extending away
With a single straight, unending road,
Running through the trackless prairies.
That vast, wide waterfall, the country crosser
Providing both sides with beauty and power
Makes famous and made famous by the brave or insane
Remembered for a barrel-drop success or failure.
Large lakes and winding rivers, fresh for all
Belts of volcanoes, many old an some new
A long undefended border, yet Shield bearing always
All accompanied by a rich myriad of wildlife
